Day of the tentacle circumvention

libspotify's song and artist search stopped working a few days back. No wonder, as it's been decommissioned for a couple of years now. I had to circumvent the problem by using spotipy, which uses Spotify's web API for song searching. As only the searching, and not the playing, stopped working all is well. One hour wasted.

When done I did a apt-get dist-upgrade on my Ubuntu machine. Afterwards it recommended that I apt-get autoremove, and all the things, including network-manager got auto-removed. Googling pursued. CD reader broken, so Live CD alternative out the window. Eventually tried the built-in recovery boot, but my experiences från Windows Recovery CDs left me with little hope. But to my surprise the recovery boot had full support for installing network and everything was dandy again! Another two hours wasted.

Today my dad called, "some dialog boxes are showing up in Outlook." Setting up remote assistance took 30 minutes, getting him to save a file to disk and sending it via webmail. Oh the frustration! After half an hour of annoyed puffing I found out that three .pst files had gone missing, and no disk errors is sight. Fixietrixie for yet another half-hour and Remote Assistance stopped working. Gnnnn!!! Another hour wasted, and probably still another hour awaiting this evening when we're going to retry importing his contacts from gmail into Outlook.

To make things worse I've found that I'm a lousy author. I'm using "too many difficult words" and the text lacks flow and umph. I always thought that spending enough time would get anyone to Shakespeare's level, but now I can't understand how I could ever have been so stupid. The book project will have to be postponed indefinitely. (The first two chapters of the sad piece is on display here.)

On the upside, I'll have a lot more time to waste on homebrew spotify clients, Ubuntu bugs and Outlook crashes! Golly, how fun! Somehow I feel like I must have had bigger plans for my life as a kid. By the time I reach 45 my main goal will be to stay alive for the day. Can't wait.
