Currently working on a freelance project for VGR, the regional health care organisation. We decided to create a map to have something a little more flashy on the site. So I cobbled this together in 17 hours:
The above shows the number of COVID-19 scientific articles published in different countries.
One third of the development time went into finding data with matching Pseudo-Mercator projections and chucking it into my plotting library of choice. Another full third, probably more, went into analyzing in what country each of the 6k journals is published in. The remainder was wiring things together, bugs, a loading spinner, dockerizing etc.
Two things surprised me: the sheer number of journals and the fact that the Netherlands produce so much research. On the other hand, they did produce Python...
