As I mentioned a couple of days ago, economy is the biggest factor in the well-being of a nation, its healthcare system and its ability to handle illnesses. Today, Volvo Trucks, for which I am a contractor, announced 20k layoffs. And that's just the start. Volvo is Sweden's motor, and in one stroke they've paved the way to a deep economic depression. For an outsider, it's probably hard to understand the significance of this single company to a whole nation, but my guess is that this will have a tremendous impact: other export companies will be directly affected, as will suppliers. Secondary victims are related industries, where IT stands out as one especially vulnerable. And thirdly, the state, the municipalities, the health-care, child-care and schooling systems.
Woah! This mass hysteria is quickly going to become very interesting, also for me personally.
